Andy Katz in his Friday blog ‘quick hits’ talked alot about Oregon State and how new coach Craig Robinson is President-Elect Barack Obama’s brother-in-law. As we all know, after Tim Welsh was fired after season, Robinson was in the running for the job. However, Providence decided to go with Keno Davis, who is just coming off of winning National Coach of the Year at Drake.
How about this slap to first-year Providence coach Keno Davis? PC interviewed Robinson but didn’t make an effort to hire him before Oregon State took him out of Brown. Instead, they looked to Drake, where Davis was the national coach of the year. At the time, it was understandable. Now, with the overwhelming exposure Robinson has received, it’s amazing to see how much more attention Oregon State has had compared to Providence. Well, the Providence Journal is running a poll with the question “Did Providence College make a mistake by not hiring Craig Robinson?” The results as of Friday were: 71 votes for yes; 41 votes for no.
Honestly, I can really care less about Oregon State. They won SIX fucking games last year and went 0-18 in the Pac-10. It’s really great that they are going to get exposure with the Obama link, but lets see how it plays out during the year. If Robinson can’t help this abysmal team improve, who cares?
Providence is in the best, move competitive Conference in the league. They will control their own destiny of exposure by WINNING GAMES. Keno Davis can help this team do that. He is our coach, it’s time to move on.
