Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Apparently Has Never Heard of Saint Mary’s

Analysis: Big East Basketball ‘08-‘09

Ray Fittipaldo scouts the largest conference in the land as its 16 teams set off on the rugged road to March Madness

The only Providence blurb:

The bad

Providence lost to Northeastern and Saint Mary’s at home: That’s a sure-fire way to drag down the rest of the conference in the RPI.

First of all, Providence did not play Saint Mary’s at home — they played them in the 5th place game during the Anaheim Classic tournament in California.  Second of all, Saint Mary’s is ELEVEN AND ONE…that’s right, 11-1 — their only loss came in the first round of that Anaheim Classic (which is apparently the Friars’ home court) against UTEP.  Their RPI is NUMBER FUCKING ELEVEN so I doubt its dragging down the Big East’s conference RPI after losing to them.  Seriously, do you not know who Saint Mary’s is?  They have one of the best players in the nation — Patrick Mills.

What’s dragging down PC’s RPI are wins against crappy teams like Brown, Dartmouth, Maine, Jackson State, and Bryant.
