The Friars enter the Big East schedule as the unofficial state champions of Rhode Island, with victories over Rhode Island, Brown and Bryant. Unfortunately for first-year coach Keno Davis, the Big East has better competition from neighboring states awaiting in the coming weeks.
Providence finished 8-4 in its pre-conference slate, and it heads into league play still searching for an identity. That’s mostly because a team that is supposed to be built on its 3-point shooting ability has spent most of the season’s first six weeks in a collective shooting slump from the outside.
