A Legendary Hallway [friars.com]
“Calabria Hallway”, the renovation project that will give Alumni Hall a nice showcase for Friar history, is set to open on January 17th.
The $400,000 project was made possible through the donation of Providence College alumnus Joe Calabria ‘65.
This renovation project became a reality in January of 2009 when the Joe and Sugar Calabria Hallway of Legends was completed. Consisting of nine exhibit areas and seven display cases, the hallway features players and teams from each era of the 82-year history of the Providence College basketball program. The hallway’s floor is a replica of the Friars’ Dave Gavitt Court at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center and the project also includes a complete renovation of the coaching staff’s offices, the film room and the team’s locker room.
The exhibits include “Meet the Friars”, “Hall of Fame Friars”, “Friar Legends Forever”, and “The Greatest Names in Friar History”/
The hallway’s seven display cases include tributes to the school’s 1973 and 1987 Final Four teams, the 1994 BIG EAST Championship team, PC’s NIT Championships in 1961 and 1963 and stories on Ryan Gomes and Jimmy Walker. Another case highlights PC players that have been selected in the NBA or ABA draft.
This sounds really great, and I can’t wait to see it!
The best line of the article though?
Designed as an ongoing project, the hallway also has plenty of room for expansion as Head Coach Keno Davis begins a new era in Friartown.
Please join us this Saturday, January 17th at 3:00 p.m. as we celebrate the Grand Opening of the Joe Calabria Hallway of Legends and the new men’s basketball offices and locker room in Alumni Hall. The event will begin with a blessing by Providence College President, Reverend Brian J. Shanley, O.P. ‘80 and tours of the new facility will be given from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Admission is FREE for all fans.
