Friars Survive with 79-77 Victory Over Mercer. Just. Barely.

What looked like a blowout midway through the second half turned into a nailbaiter.  The Friars led by as many as 19 in the 2nd, but failed to score for a stretch of about 6 or 7 minutes, allowing Mercer back into the game.   The Friars had numerous chances to put away Mercer at the end as they clinged to a small lead, but missed 7 of their 8 foul shots.  Even Sharaud Curry, usually ice from the line, missed 3 total foul shots.

With under a minute to, Mercer cut the deficit to 1 and got to the line for two shots — but Daniel Emerson missed them both.   They also had two more chances to tie in the final half minute or so, but came up short.

Marshon Brooks led the game in scoring with 26 points (although he had 22 in the first half).  He left the game later in the 2nd half due to a possible injury, but was able to return.

Greedy Peterson pulled down a ridiculous 22 rebounds, but went 5-20 from the field (missing several dunks and close shots).

You know what they say…a win is a win.

3-0 is 3-0.
