Just saw this on Friars radio announcer John Rooke’s Twitter account…it appears that JUCO forward Russ Permenter did not make the trip to the midwest for the next two games.
I asked John if he had any more info, and here is what he had to say:
Russ has not played since logging only 3 minutes in the BIG EAST opener against Notre Dame, so he definitely could be unhappy about his playing time of late. He has appeared in 11 of the 14 games, and has averaged 8 minutes of play per game.
Doesn’t sound too promising based on the timing of everything. As John pointed out, leaving now before classes started up for the semester would probably make sense. I would hate to see his time as a Friar end prematurely, but these things happen as we have seen in the past. Could this possibly have any bearing on Keno’s supposed “good news” on the recruiting front he mentioned on the last radio show (if Russ leaves, there will be an open scholarship for 2010)? Of course, this is all just speculation. He could be hurt, sick, or who knows what. Let’s see what Keno has to say regarding the matter.
More to come as soon as I hear anything.
UPDATE (8:20 PM): Kevin McNamara of the Projo reports that Permenter is staying in order to finish up some school work.
Russ Permenter is not making the trip due to some unfinished academic responsibilities. Asked if Permenter is in academic good standing and still a member of the team, PC sports info director Arthur Parks said tonight “absolutely. He just has some class work he is completing.”
