Wednesday, November 9th marks the first day of the early signing period for college basketball. It will be a huge day in Friartown, as the big verbals Ed Cooley has reeled in will be turned into official Letters of Intent. Nothing could go wrong right (Hi Joe Young!)? Ricardo Ledo, Kris Dunn, and Josh Fortune are all expected to officially sign, giving the Friars a loaded back court for next season. While Providence is targeting some highly touted big men in the 2012 class who will not decide until the spring, 6’8″ F Jarion Henry’s name has popped up recently as another potential early signee that would be a great get for Coach Cooley.
Henry, who is orginally from Texas but now plays at La Jolla Prep in California, originally committed to New Mexico last April. Here is a local news video when he picked the Lobos.
The D1 Hoops Report had him ranked #92 last year in the Class of 2011.
92. Jarion Henry, SF, 6’8, Kimball (TX), uncommitted- a mismatch on the wing who can take his defenders inside and out
However, he de-committed last month and reclassified to 2012.
As Kevin McNamara reported last weekend, Henry attended the exhibition game against UMass-Lowell at the Dunk, and afterwards narrowed down his choice to Providence and Oklahoma.
On the night before signing day, Ricky Ledo has been lobbying on Twitter for Henry to join him in the highly touted class, promising lots of playing time.
@REALRICKLEDO1 @Damn_ImTall you gotta think about you to n wea you gone play ALOT
@Damn_ImTall @REALRICKLEDO1 yeah I know but both places I’ll be able to play right away
However, Henry mentioned that his family wants him to pick Oklahoma for geographical reasons
@Damn_ImTall @REALRICKLEDO1 Idk bro.. Moms want me to go to OU bad closer to her and the fam you know..
Still, it sounds like he has not completely made up his mind. We will just have to wait until tomorrow for the chance to make an already special day even more crazy in Friartown.
