Kris Dunn gave a taste of playing dominating basketball in the state of Rhode Island by helping his New London team take down St. Raphael’s in Warwick in front of a packed house on Saturday night. Dunn scored 32 points and pulled down TWENTY SIX rebounds (17 offensive!) in the 66-55 win.

ESPN Boston: Recap: New London (Conn.) 66, St. Ray’s (R.I.) 55

Money in the bank: Dunn was more than money.

If anything, he was all the gold in Fort Knox.

“The thing is we couldn’t stop Dunn,” Sorrentine said. “We tried everything. We tried to play him full-court man and then pick him up and double him. That wasn’t working because he was getting to the hoop.

The Day: Whalers dazzle across the border

“It was a great atmosphere, a lot of fans and two great teams going at it,” New London star Kris Dunn said. “I’m proud of my team. We worked hard and came out with a win.”

Yes, Dunn put on another dazzling performance, scoring a game-high 32 points and grabbing 26 rebounds, including 17 offensive rebounds. He used his quickness to penetrate the lane and wore out a path to the foul line, sinking 16 free throws.

But it wasn’t just the way Dunn ran up court, it was the way he ran with authority that had so many in the stands cheering him on tonight; had so many recruiting analysts throwing praise over the last nine months; and had even one nationally-respected analyst calling him the Friars’ most important backcourt recruit since God Shammgod.

Over and over on the defensive end, Dunn would spring towards the rim, grab the loose ball and immediately turn up court with a full head of steam. Rinse and repeat at the other end, where Dunn picked up 12 offensive rebounds on the night.

St. Ray's coach Tom Sorrentine compared Kris Dunn to former Providence star and NJ Net Marshon Brooks. "Gets where he wants to go"

I'm not keeping a rebound count, but Kris Dunn must have somewhere close to 10 off. boards. Never quits on a play.

Here are some of Ed Cooley’s gems:

“Right now we got puppies, and we are playing against dogs”

“When you lose at home, it just rips my heart out. It feels like someone broke into your house and took your nice china. I like my china. Tea is really good in it”

If you are Seton Hall, you are feeling pretty good about the present right about now. After beating finally beating UCONN for the first time in eleven years, Kevin Willard and the Pirates are starting to get recognized and have begun making eye contact with the Top 25 from across the bar. The future ain’t looking too bad either, with highly ranked recruit Aquille Carr giving a verbal yesterday. Gone are the days of one man show Jeremey Hazell chucking up threes like they are going out of style. The Seton Hall offense is now a balanced attack, and their defense has tremendously improved from a season ago.

In order to get their first BIG EAST win this season, the Friars have to continue to play with the energy and fight that they brought against top ranked Syracuse during the week. The Hall will surely not be in “let-down” mode since a win will most likely get them in the polls, so PC will once again need everyone to be firing on all cylinders.

According to StatSheet.com, only two Friar recruits have ever played in the McDonald’s All-American Game since it started in 1977.

1995: God Shammgod
1990: Michael Smith

Delray Brooks also played in the game in 1984, but he first signed with Indiana before transferring to Providence after two seasons.

Kris Dunn has a great shot at becoming the next Friar to play in the famous game according to his coach.

The Pawtucket Times: McGair: Game against New London serves as chance for SRA to make a statement on behalf of RIIL

“His name has been submitted,” said New London head coach Craig Parker. “I’m sure based on his current status – some publications rank Kris as the top point guard in the Class of 2012 – that he will have serious consideration for that game. That’s certainly something we’re hoping for regarding both him and our program.”

The Top 150 names are currently being voted on, with the Top 50 being selected in mid-January. Dunn should easily make it to that round with the way he has played this season so far and where he stands in all the rankings. After another round of voting, the field gets filtered down to 30 in late January for a final ballot. The announcement of the 24 players will be made in early February, with the game itself airing on ESPNU in mid-February.

Here is a PDF of the selection process, which includes everyone on the voting committee.

Note: Ricardo Ledo will be ineligible to make the team since he has taken more than 4 years to complete high school.

Fifth-Year Players
The selection criteria to be named to the McDonald’s All American Games Team adheres to the rules and regulations of the National High School Federation which states that once a student/athlete enters his/her ninth grade year, he/she has four consecutive years to complete his/her high school eligibility. Therefore, fifth-year players are not eligible to participate in the McDonald’s All American High School Basketball Games.

Scott Cordischi had some information on Kiwi Gardner in his article today about Ed Cooley and the Friars.

GoLocalProv: PC’s Cooley “Gets It!”

Rumors were circulating around the Dunk that freshman guard Kiwi Gardner may be no longer be with the program. Those rumors are simply not true. Cooley told GoLocalProv.com after the game that Gardner was told to go home to Los Angeles and enjoy the holidays with his family since he has been ruled ineligible to play by the NCAA. A source also said that Gardner did very well in his first semester at PC despite the NCAA saying that he did not have the proper credentials coming out of high school to be eligible to play as a freshman at PC. Because of the NCAA’s ruling, Gardner cannot practice with the team or sit on the bench during their games. However, he is expected to return to Providence before the start of second semester.

And I Thought Our Walk-ons Rocked

Here is Seton Hall walk-on Peter Dill on the bench. Pure awesomeness.

Kris Dunn is currently featured on the ESPN Recruiting homepage with a pretty cool pic.

The headline? I’ve think we’ve seen this before not too long ago.

Come on, folks. We can’t get another headline for Dunn? Josh Fortune better get the same treatment over the next few months, or he’s going to feel pretty left out when he joins the team next year.  ”Oh, we were rated higher than you, AND you are not a Friar on Friar! LOL”
