The Providence Friars were able to get their 2nd BIG EAST win of the season by defeating Rutgers at the Dunk 78-67.

Bilal Dixon scored a season-high 18 points, and Vincent Council had 11 points and 14 assists to lead Providence to a 78-67 victory over Rutgers on Wednesday night.Rutgers (12-11, 4-6) whittled the deficit to 64-60 with 2:38 remaining after switching to a full-court press midway through the second half, but the Scarlet Knights didn’t get any closer the rest of the way.Cotton hit two 3-pointers in 20 seconds, both on assists from Council, to give the Friars (13-10, 2-8) a 70-60 lead with 1:51 remaining. Cotton finished with 17 points.

Wait a minute, Bilal Dixon 18 points? Yeah that’s right. Dixon played perhaps his best game ever in a Friars uniform, really giving the team a presence in the paint on both ends of the floor. “A man amongst boys” according to Rutgers head coach Mike Rice.

The last 9 minutes of the first half proved key for Providence, as a big run gave them a commanding 40-26 lead heading into the lockerroom. Vincent Council had a hand in the last TWENTY ONE Friars points during that time, scoring five and dishing out seven assists. While he cooled off considerably in the 2nd half (0 points, 4 assists), the rest of the Friars stepped up and truly got the victory as a team. Dixon and LaDontae Henton provided great inside play, Gerard Coleman got back on track after several poor games in a row, and Ice Cotton hit big threes all game (Oh, in case you didn’t get the memo, Bryce Cotton shall henceforth be known as Ice Cotton. We need signs, t-shirts, hats. Make it happen, Friartown).

Rutgers was able to fight back throughout the 2nd half on the strength of rebounding and forcing the Friars into several turnovers. However, PC didn’t flinch in crunch time and closed out it out for a much needed conference win.

Let’s dish out some pasta for the performances

Bilal Dixon – Eat up Bilal, you deserved it. Season high 18 points, plus 10 rebounds and 5 blocks.

Ice Cotton – Five three pointers, including two huge consecutive ones down the stretch when Rutgers was threatening to come back. I swear he got better after getting called for a bunch of cheap fouls. Thanks Tim Higgins! You finally helped us out.

Vincent Council – Didn’t score in the 2nd half, but ran Rutgers off the court in the end of the first and dropped dimes all night. I really dug the high socks look too.

Gilvydas Biruta – Didn’t have a particularly great shooting night, but really did a job on the boards with 9 offensive rebounds. Almost got a bonus bowl for looking like Jason Ritter. But it was taken away for getting POSTERIZED by….

LaDontae Henton – One rebound away from a double-double. Really slacking off there, big guy.

Myles Mack – If peeing in your pants is cool, consider me Myles Mack.

Eli Carter – Quiet night for the freshman.

Brice Kofane – When Rutgers was manhandling PC on the glass, I was wondering how Kofane didn’t see court at all. He must be really effing around in practice to get zero minutes with the depth issues on the team.

Dane Miller – This is the same guy who torched PC as a freshman?

STUPID TWEET OF THE GAME (OR EVEN YEAR)

I actually thought Keno Davis was still the coach at Providence. It's Ed Cooley. I am surprised Providence did not give Davis time.
