Boston Herald: Nerlens Noel at Everett?

He’s went back to Everett to review transcripts blah blah blah (which he actually disputed via Twitter). The end of the article is what’s important.

The word is out that Providence College has emerged as one of the favorites for his service.

Not sure if they are referring to the Cordischi report (the only real place it’s been said anything like this), but still crazy nonetheless. According to Jeff Goodman on Twitter, Noel will be visiting Providence unofficially this week, and Kentucky February 17-18.

Top Performance of the Day:

Nerlens Noel (Tilton 2012) – This was Noel’s first national appearance since announcing his intentions to graduate this year as a member of the 2012 class early Thursday morning. Providence fans packed the gym to see him as they made the cut of his seven final schools along with Kentucky, Syracuse, Connecticut, Florida, Georgetown and North Carolina. Dominance doesn’t even begin to describe the defensive effort put forth by Noel as he tallied 10 blocks to go along with countless more altered shots. It reached a point where REDA coaches could be heard screaming at their players who even attempted to challenge the big man as a shot in the lane against Noel was basically a turnover. BIG EAST Men’s Basketball Honors – Feb. 6

Yeah he missed some bjg free throws, but Coleman had a fantastic game against West Virginia otherwise.

BIG EAST Honor Roll

Gerard Coleman, Providence, G, So.
Averaged 22.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Scored a career-high 30 points in an overtime loss to West Virginia.

The question isn’t where we will be ranked, it’s more of what they are going to say this week.

16. Providence: There are no moral victories, so no solace for the Friars in taking West Virginia to OT. But that’s really all Ed Cooley is aiming for right now — building confidence and a new attitude in his program.

Woonsocket Call: Cooley reflects on first season with Friars; PC target Orlando Sanchez to decide following season

Some interesting stuff about Orlando Sanchez, sometimes the forgotten target with all the hoopla about Sampson, Obekpa, and Noel.

Reached over the weekend, Mustangs head coach Jeff Brustad stated that the Friars “have done an excellent job in terms of being visible and interacting with him when they come to games. Orlando definitely knows who they are and I would say (PC) would have to be in his top five. PC has the need for some frontcourt help so it may be a good fit.”

The Monroe coach said that Sanchez could probably make a decision now, but given his lack of familiarity with the U.S., Brustad believes that it behooves his player to hold off until after the season. Cincinnati, West Virginia, St. John’s and Mississippi State have also expressed strong interest.
“It was in his best interest to not give out his number and not deal with any official visits like that,” Brustad. “We’ll save that for the end of March and beginning of April.”
