We’ve been down this road before, but it looks like once again there are questions regarding Providence’s standing with the #1 player in the 2012 class, Nerlens Noel. In a TV spot on Channel 5 in Boston, Noel says that he “narrowed it down to Kentucky, Syracuse, Florida, Georgetown, and North Carolina. You can watch the video here.
You can’t see my face right now, but if you could I would be giving you a blank, emotionless stare (picture Ron Gronkowski trying to solve a math problem or something). You see, I’ve decided not to get worked up one way or another on information about Noel, or his interviews that list schools. Just think of me as the emotionless messenger with some hard hitting questions. When was this filmed? Maybe he didn’t think the audience would know that Providence College actually fieled a Division I basketball team (OK, it’s a Boston channel, but still)? Maybe he’s slow playing his loving of Ed Cooley and Providence College into a major bombshell of a commitment? Who knows.
As of yesterday, Noel tweeted to someone that PC was still on his list (yes, we’ve heard that before too).

This came around the same time that he also tweeted back to someone that he was considering 5 teams on his list (which would match the number he said on TV).

So, either Nerlens Noel is having some trouble counting or is really afraid to let down Friartown and Ed Cooley down publicly on Twitter. He will make an official decision soon, and if it is the case Providence is out, I’m definitely thankful PC made it this far and will hope for a commitment from the other top bigs.
