The NBA?

Ricky Ledo checked in to Providence College this week, as all incoming freshmen are supposed to do. It’s a story, because we say it is…because we’re interested in whether or not he plays a game for the Friars this year – and maybe the next. So, what does Ledo care about? I’ll wager it’s not what you – or I – think he cares about…

CraigL’s first article over at FB. Good stuff.

Abdul Malik Abu – 6’8 PF – Expressions – Kimball Union – Abdul is emerging as one of Ed Cooley’s primary targets for the 2014 class, as there was a member of the PC staff at every Expressions game during the summer.

Abu is that rare low post player who combines great athletic ability and high motor with a powerful body. When I saw him at the Providence Jamfest he was an  absolute beast down low. Abu had a great summer and is now on everyone’s top 100 list (ESPN #47). Many schools are starting to show interest, but PC has recruited him the hardest, which has been noted several times by both Abu and the Expressions staff.

calendar2 September 1st is a big day for Friar birthdays. New Friars Josh Fortune and Tyler Harris share the same birthday with Friar legend Ryan Gomes. Happy Birthday to them all!

Former Friar Donnie McGrath will be playing for a new teem in Greece this season. I think this below is translated!

Donnie McGrath (193-G-84, college: Providence) is officially player of PAOK Thessaloniki The two sides were in negotiations for a lot of time but they finally reached an agreement. The player had passed from the team of Thessaloniki the period 2010-11 but an serious injury made PAOK to replace him. That season in 9 matches in the Greek league had 9.3ppg, 1.2rpg and 2.4apg.

Speaking of Scoochie.

“Off the court he’s a great kid, very coachable no problems at all. It’s a pleasure coaching him, we’re expecting big things from him this year.”

Illinois came through with an offer this summer to the 6-foot-2, 160-pound guard, who also holds offers from Dayton, Rhode Island, Drexel, Manhattan, St. Bonaventure and Wichita State, among many other mid-majors. The likes of Indiana, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Kansas State, Miami and Penn State have all been showing interest.

“I mean I’m hoping to trim my list down, but everyone is pretty equal right now,” admitted Smith. “I’m going to take unofficial and official visits before deciding, but I really don’t have any timetable right now.”
