Begun, the Gauntlet Has
There are hundreds of thousands of words in the English language, but when it comes to certain sports situations only one word or phrase is consistently used for no apparent reason. For example, in baseball when a pitcher drives in a run himself, someone always has to say that he is “helping his own cause”. No other phrase is ever used to describe this situation. Ever. In college...

PC Loses to Cincinnati: Instant Reaction
Cincinnati 92, Providence 88
Why Cincinnati Won: Providence’s defense had trouble stopping Cincinnati all game, but the Friars offense simply sputtered for most of the 2nd half (until the very end when Curry started drilling late threes in a furious late comeback that fell short). The Bearcats stepped up their defense in the 2nd, and forced PC into many poor shots within the half court...

What To / Where To: BIG EAST Game #9 at Cincinnati
The Providence Friars look to keep up the momentum gained from upsetting Connecticut on Wednesday night when they face the Cincinnati Bearcats on the road. Even though Cincinnati has NCAA Tournament aspirations, the Friars have played them well over the last few years. This might seem silly given Keno’s roster turnover, but many of the trends have held up this year — Such as getting...

Guest Post: Defending the Court Storm
This is a guest post by SM, a current student at Providence College, and proprietor of the blog “The Truth About PC Basketball”. With all the hoopla about the court storm from beating UConn, I asked him for his thoughts on the topic.
In the wake of last night’s epic victory over rival UConn, voices from all over the sports world are criticizing the PC student sections’ decision to...

Providence, just when I thought the season could not get any worse, you do something like this AND TOTALLY REDEEM YOURSELF!!
It’s a great day to be a Friar fan. What a phenomenal job by Keno Davis and his staff getting the team to come together after the South Florida debacle. The team played intense, inspired basketball in front of an EXCELLENT crowd at the DUNK. The excitement...

Greedy's SportsCenter Dunk Montage
Jamine Peterson got a lot of love on tonight’s 11PM SportsCenter, as they showcased all of his insane dunks in the big win over Connecticut. My favorite was the last one, titled “Baseline Tomahawk”. His knees almost hit the freakin’ rim!
Thanks to Ryan from RI Sports Coverage for the video!

Fan Video of the Court Storm
Saw this video posted by Ryan of the RI Sports Coverage Blog, who was at the UConn game and captured the fans storming the court.
Say what you will about storming the court after beating the #19 team, I say eff it. We’ve had a rough year and deserve it. Storm away students.

Friars Upset #19 UConn: Instant Reaction
Why the Friars won: Providence put the disaster from Saturday behind them, and played with great intensity on both ends of the court. Both teams did not shoot particularly well (especially UConn in the last 5 minutes), but Providence really dominated on the glass with 24 offensive rebounds (Greedy had 6, Dixon had 5), leading to 21 second chance points. Down the stretch the Friars played smart...

What To / Where To: BIG EAST Game #8 vs. UCONN
So what are we going to see from the Friars after Saturday’s debacle? Well, I’ve heard that practices have been going really well (and two players everyone lashed out were “kicking arse” in the process), but your guess is as good as mine. It’s likely the same starters will see the court to start the game, but we will have to see how the new minutes are distributed. ...

This past Sunday, the Keno Davis Show aired its second episode on Providence’s local NBC station. Here are some clips from the NBC site turnto10.com.

Seeing Ray Hall admit his Star Wars love and seeing his painting of Yoda earns him about a million points in my book. Greatest Star Wars character of all time? Well, that is a debate for a different website.

Keno vs Timmy Two Years In
I know some of you Friar fans have probably blocked out the last 10 seasons out of your head, but here is the inevitable comparison of Keno Davis and former coach Tim Welsh in terms of recruiting. Ah, Primetime.
Shockingly, in hindsight, one of the most credible recruiting sources at the time, Hoop Scoop, ranked this class the 8th best in the country. The results...

That (Lead) Wasn't Safe at All! [Game Recaps]
In looking at the really depressing game flow chart on StatSheet, I noticed that the 92-83 Friars lead with :49 seconds to go had a 61.7% LEAD SAFENESS.
To quote the great commentary of Tommy Boy when playing checkers with Richard: “Come on, It’s safe I swear!!”
“Haha that’s wasn’t safe it all!!!”
Anyways, obviously a very very tough loss to take. ...

Friars Blow Late Lead in Awful OT Loss to USF
109-105. One hundred and effing 9 to 105.
Following this game on Twitter and the gamecasts, it seemed the Friars were having absolutely no trouble with South Florida with a nice lead for most of the game. Sure, Dominique Jones was getting his points, but the Friars offense was kicking. The defense? No so much. Everything went to hell in a hand basket after Providence blew a 10 point lead with...

According to Ken Pomeroy’s site, tonight’s game against South Florida at home will be the Friars only win the rest of the season. If you ask me, projections and these so called “statistics” are all a bunch of...

The Effect of Losing Greedy
Just before halftime of PC’s blowout loss against Marquette, Jamine Peterson was ejected from the game for a flagrant elbow to Joseph Fulce. The officials didn’t quite catch it at first, but used a new rule to replay the incident to determine that Greedy did in fact use a cheap elbow to the face to get position.
By that point in the game, the damage had already been done. Marquette,...
