The Marquette Golden Eagles defeated the Providence Friars tonight 79-72. Marquette shot lights out in the 2nd half (they hit 11 of their first 14 attempts and went a ridiculous 9-11 from downtown overall) to pull away from the Friars after a back and forth first half. Jae Crowder had 18 points, while Jamil Wilson had a career high 16 points off the bench.

Wilson gave Marquette a 62-57 edge with 10:45 to play when he hit a jumper from the top and followed that with a 3 from the left corner.

After Gerard Coleman had a basket for Providence, Wilson had consecutive baskets in the lane, pushing the Golden Eagles’ lead to 66-59 with 8:02 left.

Gardner then took over the scoring. He scored in the lane, hit one free throw and a putback made it an 11-point lead with 3:51 remaining.

Bryce Cotton had 28 points to lead all scorers.

Watch Kevin Willard of Seton Hall and Ed Cooley give their press conference following the Hall’s 66-57 win over Providence.

Here are some of Ed Cooley’s gems:

“Right now we got puppies, and we are playing against dogs”

“When you lose at home, it just rips my heart out. It feels like someone broke into your house and took your nice china. I like my china. Tea is really good in it”

In a blowout embarrasing loss, Ed Cooley is going to have some crazy quotes. Here is the full video of the press conference. It must have been fun waking up early this morning for the Friar players.

Ed Cooley talked with the press following Providence’s 80-61 win over Rhode Island. Bryce Cotton, who scored 19 points and had two huge back to back threes to fuel a great second half, joined him.

Ed Cooley spoke to the press following Providence’s 67-52 victory over New Hampshire to move to 10-2 on the season. Vincent Council picked up his 3rd double-double of the year with 17 points and 12 assists, and led the charge on offense to break away from the Wildcats less than midway through the 2nd half. LaDontae Henton also had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Gerard Coleman was fantastic on offense with 20 points. In his season debut, Kadeem Batts scored 9 points on 4-7 shooting while grabbing 6 rebounds in 18 minutes.

Here is the video of the press conferece (give it a little bit to start, the sound starts off poorly).

Hey, check out the @TheWarriorFriar cameo!

So Bryce Cotton was in there with Ed, which was fitting because he was the only one who apparently showed up in the first half today. I love Cotton trying not laugh as Coach Cooley said he would kiss everyone on the lips if they told him PC would be 9-2. “Not a long one though”.
