Check out Bryce Cotton’s awesome half time buzzer beater layup against Fairfield last night. It came in at number 10 on SportsCenter’s Top Plays last night. Thanks to everyone who Tweeted at ESPN to help promote it!

Video: Friars Lose to UMass at the Buzzer

Not to relive the pain, but here is the video of the UMass tip in at the buzzer to beat the Friars 77-75 in the first round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

Right before this, the Friars had the ball with about 40 seconds left. LaDontae Henton got called for a highly questionable charge (although it wasn’t the best play by Henton, who had an overall pretty terrible game), allowing the Minuteman to hold for the final shot.

The short handed Friars had an overall gutsy performance, taking a 5 point lead late into the game after being down by as many as 11 in the first half. Bryce Cotton and Kadeem Batts were generally fantastic, and it was such a tough way to lose after playing so hard against all the odds.

PC will play Penn State at 7:30 tomorrow night.

Here is Vin Parise and Dave Jageler breaking down the Bryant game last night along with some highlights.

Ed Cooley Speaks at PC Elite Camp

dave@friarblog —  October 28th, 2012 4:43 PM —  Comments

The Basketball Diary has posted up some great video of Ed Cooley speaking at the PC Elite Camp that was held in August. Friar targets such as Jeremy Miller, Josh Sharma, Terry Larrier, and Paschal Chukwu were in attendance at the inaugural camp held on campus.

Tomorrow at 2PM the Friars will play Assumption in an exhibition matchup at the new Alumni Hall. Did you get your tickets yet, freshman? I know early afternoon is a little rough after frequenting all the Friday night hot spots after an arduous week, but you wouldn’t want to disappoint Kris Dunn now would you? Every fan in the stands will make his shoulder heal that much quicker. Trust me, it’s science.

If you missed the only chance to see Ricky Ledo play basketball this season, Cox Sports has some nice highlights of him from the Mal Brown game played over the weekend. If you squint your eyes enough you can pretend he’s drilling threes and driving the lane against UConn at the Dunk.

Video: Late Night Madness Dunks

dave@friarblog —  October 13th, 2012 1:46 PM —  Comments

A few people have been sending in some great fan videos of the dunk contest from last night.

Here are a few of Bryce Cotton’s best dunks of the night that helped propel him to his 3rd straight win. In the 2nd round (and in the encore after winning), Ice failed to connect on his signature between the legs dunk. That definitely would have brought the house down. However, these two ones are pretty solid for a 6 foot guard! Now, let’s start to see these in games Dunkin’ Ice!

Hit up more dunks after the jump.

Meet Your Friars

dave@friarblog —  September 21st, 2012 5:59 PM —  Comments

The PC Athletic Department posted a video today of all of our Friars (except poor Kris Dunn) answering some questions in order to get to know them better. What did we find out about our young student athletes? I felt like I was perusing a copy of US Weekly (my wife’s I SWEAR) because THEY’RE JUST LIKE US! At least in my college years. It seems that everyone likes to play video games and sleep/nap, prompting me to wonder how my tremendous gaming and napping skills didn’t translate to Friar Basketball in the early Tim Welsh years.

Here is what else jumped out at me:

Ted Bancroft likes to take a bath before the game? I don’t know why, but the way he deadpanned delivered that made me laugh out loud at work. Is it a bubble bath? Is there Kenny G involved? We need to know these things.

Good to see that no one is afraid of Ed Cooley, despite all the yelling and growling on the sidelines last year during bonehead plays and frequent defensive lapses. Although after that awesome Cooley impersonation by Kadeem Batts, he may have some wind sprints coming up shortly…

Lee Goldsbrough has been here two years now, but I feel like I’ve never heard him talk on video (I know he’s from England). The girls at PC must swoon over that accent.

When Sidiki Johnson signed on with PC earlier in the year, he seemed very lean. Is there something up with the camera angle, or has he really, um bulked up? What are you doing to our players, Ray Cafe?

Ledo is still wearing Bancroft’s jersey number. Where is the #1?

How was there no mention of Twitter amongst all these frequent Tweeters!?

What was Council’s impersonation of Sidiki Johnson? “Copy Copy”? We need to know more.

Maybe they wanted to keep Dunn away from the camera because he is in a sling? Seeing him in uniform would have gotten me amped.

Henton is awesome, and he calls his Mom before every game. Mama Buckets must be proud, and does a great job preparing her little Buckets pregame.
