Why the Friars won: St. John’s turned it over 23 times (thanks to 16 Providence steals), and couldn’t hit shots during the last 5 minutes. Even though the Friars struggled shooting most of the game, they stayed close with their defense and made plays (and lots of foul shots) down the stretch.
Turning point: With the game tied at 54 with 6 minutes left, the Friars turned it on offensively and St. John’s couldn’t buy a bucket. Three minutes later the Friars had a ten point lead, and they didn’t look back.
Player of the Game: Sharaud Curry - he carried the team offensively in the first half (15 of PC’s 32 points) and finished the game strong with a lot of great driving plays to the hoop.
Goat of the Game: Malik Stith - filling in for injured starting point guard Malik Boothe, Stith had 5 of St. John’s 23 turnovers and went 0-4 from the foul line.
Stat of the Game: Bilal Dixon had 5 blocks, 4 of them in the 2nd half
