Here is an interesting picture from the Friars practice yesterday. It seems Batts was sitting out with ice packs on his shoulder (and not wearing football pads). I really hope it’s not too serious since Cooley cannot afford to lose anyone early on in the season. Also, Kris Dunn appears to be rehabbing with some sort of wand apparatus. Or maybe he was a ninja turtle for Halloween.

notes Scott Cordischi of GoLocalProv also noted yesterday that Kris Dunn was seen taking 15-17 foot jumpers in practice on Wednesday which is certainly a good sign.

Gametime is 7PM at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. It will also be televised on COX.

Scouting Rhode Island College: Rhode Island College posted a 23-7 mark during its 2011-12 season, including a 10-4 record in the Little East. The Anchormen i nished tied for second with Western Connecticut and Keene State. The Anchormen also went 14-0 at home. RIC made the Little East Conference championship as a third seed entering the tournament. They advanced to the championship game before being defeated by No. 1 seed Eastern Connecticut in the i nals, 82-60. The team is led by 6-2 senior guard Tahrike Carter. The 2013 All-Little East guard averaged 10.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 4.2 apg last season. Head Coach Bob Walsh, a 1994 graduate of Hamilton College and former Friar assistant coach, enters his eighth year at the helm of the Anchormen in 2012-13. He has presided over one of the most successful periods in the program’s storied history as RIC has made seven consecutive trips to the postseason and six straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament-one of only i ve teams in the nation to accomplish this feat. Walsh has led RIC to the Sweet 16 three times and the Elite Eight once

The inside force Friartown needs Kadeem Batts to be all season.

notes I hope everyone stays safe in the next coming days in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. There’s a high chance Friarblog headquarters are going to lose power at some point, so updates may just be relegated to Twitter. As far as the basketball team is concerned, apparently all students are being kept inside their buildings until 9am tomorrow morning according to the school website. Cooley should get a PS3 and do some coaching on NBA2k13.

Good news, they think the Friars will finish 12th. Bad news, we apparently have no “must-know” story lines. At least they call out Vincent Council as the best passer in the league after snubbing him for the All-Conference team.

notes The Friartown Twitterverse was in a little bit of a frenzy after 2014 guard Kahari Beaufort (who is attending Late Night Madness on Friday) went on a tweeting spree about how excited he was about LNM and PC in general. He tweeted at Coach Cooley, said he was wearing Friars gear, retweeted EVERY Friar fan who gave him love, and even talked about big news coming up. It sounds like he is definitely interested in Providence, but let’s temper the enthusiasm a bit until there is an official decision. Based on some things I was told, let’s just say his Twitter follower count could be a big factor here.

The Connecticut native is ranked in the top 50 in various publications, and has some ties to the UConn program. He was originally planning on attending UConn’s midnight madness, but changed his mind in favor of Ed Cooley. Get used to that, Huskies! Beaufort is the first known recruit to be attending the festivities so far, which will certainly focus on members of the 2014 class. Here is a highlight tape from last year of Beaufort. Here is an interview with him from over the summer. Beaufort has offers from Providence, Drexel, Baylor, and Miami so far, but has Pittsburgh, Iowa, Rutgers, UConn, and Fordham according to the New England Recruiting Report.
