I haven’t been keeping up with the play of Ryan Gomes too much this season, but I saw his name pop up in my Minnesota Timberwolves game notification.  Ryan has been doing pretty well lately, scoring in double-digits in six straight games.  Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he was conjoined at the hip with teammate Corey Brewer, creating an uber-basketball player?

Anyways, Gomes scored 26 points last night, 20 of them coming in the first half of Minnesota’s 109-102 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.  He was 5-7 from downtown, and also pulled in 4 rebounds and dished out 3 assists.

Check out some highlights below from NBA.com to see Ryan in action.

Gomes is now averaging 10.9 points and 4.5 rebounds in almost 28 minutes per game.

The victory was a season high 4th win in a row for the Timberwolves, who are still in the basement of the Northwest Division at 13-38.

The Minnesota Timberwolves finally won another game!  After winning their season opener, the T-Wolves dropped FIFTEEN games in a row.  Hey, at least they were a game better than the NJ Nets.

On Sunday night, they broke their losing streak by defeating the 12-5 Denver Nuggets by a score of 106-100.  Not only that, they missed tying the franchise mark of 16 straight losses set in 1992.

Leading the slaying of the streak was none other than our Ryan Gomes, who had the team high of 27 points (his season high) on 12-18 shooting.  The 27 points was also the most by a Timberwolves player this year.  He also chipped in with 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

Gomes is having a solid year overall, averaging almost 10 points and 6 rebounds per game, but struggled in his last two combining for only 8 points.  It’s good to see him have a dominating game like this.

Way to go Ryan!

In surfing around Ryan Gomes’ player card this morning, I ran into this awesome photo.

OK OK, so the Celtics did end up beating the Timberwolves 92-90 last Wednesday.  BUT, our Ryan put up 11 points to Paul Pierce’s 10.  Take THAT Mr. Skills!

According to Friars.com, Ryan Gomes came back to PC’s campus for the first time in several years.

“All of these facilities are first-class,” Gomes said. “The lockerrooms, the offices, the Hallway of Legends, the sports medicine facility and the strength and conditioning complex have all been renovated and are state-of-the art. I wish I still had some eligibility left. This program has everything a player needs to get prepared for BIG EAST competition and the next level.”

Of course, if you are following Keno Davis on Twitter, you would have seen this yesterday.

So far, Keno has been posting some great stuff over on the Twitter to keep us Friar fans in the loop.

Crap, missed this one.  As part of their 65 chats in 65 days, Ryan Gomes answered people’s questions on Wednesday.

NBA’s 65 in 65: Ryan Gomes

Some PC questions made it in..

Steven (NJ): What is your favorite moment of your career?

SportsNationRyan Gomes: When we made it to the NCAA tournament in college and starting my first game in the NBA.

Ant Feds - New Haven: Go Friars! What about your Providence career has best prepared you for the NBA?

SportsNationRyan Gomes: I think just playing in the Big East. Playing against all these great teams and having good competition was good for me.

After Austin Croshere got waived, Ryan Gomes is now the only former Providence Friar in the NBA.  I will try to give a Gomes update each week.

Since Minnesota lost Al Jefferson for the year, Gomes has really stepped up.

Here are his lines the last 5 games.

2/18 vs MIA - 20 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals
2/20 vs IND - 26 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals
2/22 vs LAL - 20 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists
2/24 vs TOR - 23 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists
2/25 vs UTA - 24 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block

Of course Minnesota has only won 1 of those last 5 (versus Miami last Wednesday).  The Timberwolves are now 18-39.

After Austin Croshere got waived, Ryan Gomes is now the only former Providence Friar in the NBA.  I will try to give a Gomes update each week.

The Timberwolves won 1 of 3 games this week, with Ryan Gomes performing well in each game.  On Friday night, he his best game of the season.  Let’s take a look at all the games from the week.

2/17/09 - Minnesota 103, Washington 111

Jamison gets 29; Wizards beat Timberwolves 111-103

Coming out of the All-Star break, the last-place Washington Wizards set a goal of playing at least .500 ball for the rest of the season.

Then they went out and blew a 19-point, first-half lead against the Minnesota Timberwolves, another team reeling from the loss of its best player.

The Wizards avoided further embarrassment by pulling away in the final minute for a 111-103 victory Tuesday night in a game that guaranteed that at least one struggling team would start the season’s homestretch on a good note.

Gomes’ line: 29 mins, 15 points, 6-18 shooting (1-4 3FG), 5 rebounds, 1 assist

2/18/09 - Minnesota 111, Miami 104

Wolves spoil O’Neal’s debut, beat Heat

Telfair had a career-high 30 points and eight assists, Ryan Gomes added 20 points, and the Minnesota Timberwolves spoiled O’Neal’s debut in Miami by hitting a season-high 14 3-pointers and beating the Heat 111-104 on Wednesday night.

Gomes’ line: 36 mins, 20 points, 8-14 shooting (3-4 3FG), 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals

2/20/09 - Minnesota 105, Indiana 112

Daniels, Pacers hold off T-wolves with 112-105 win

Marquis Daniels filled in for injured All-Star Danny Granger just fine, scoring 24 points in Granger’s place in the starting lineup and leading the Indiana Pacers past the Minnesota Timberwolves 112-105 on Friday night.

Troy Murphy added 16 points and 14 rebounds, helping the Pacers overcome a career-high 36 points by Randy Foye while the Timberwolves missed 18 of 41 free throws.

Gomes’ line: 35 mins, 26 points (SEASON HIGH), 10-19 shooting (2-3 3FG), 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals

Even more interesting about this game was all of the former BIG EAST players involved.

IND - Troy Murphy - 16 points (ND)

IND - Roy Hibbert - 7 points (Georgetown)

Minn - Randy Foye - 36 points (Nova)

Minn - Craig Smith - 3 points

And obviously our boy Ryan Gomes with 26 points.
